Heath Week Family Fun Day
Event details
About the event
Heath Week is a week-long celebration of East Devon’s heaths. Join us for a family-friendly day at Bystock Pools nature reserve, with pond dipping, walks, trails, wildlife stands and activities to learn more about why heathland is so special for wildlife and people. In the evening, we will be back for a bat walk with local expert Sara Butcher.
Pond Dipping: Discover the secret world full of incredible creatures in the ponds of Bystock Pools nature reserve. Equipment will be provided. Group will walk down to ponds from bottom of meadow. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Wildflower Walk: One of DWT’s most diverse reserves, it's easy to see why Bystock Pools is a popular nature spot. Join us on a wildflower walk to take a closer look at the flowers which bring colour to the reserve. Meet at bottom of meadow by gazebos (activities will be signposted).
Bat Walk: Join bat expert Sarah Butcher on a walk around Bystock Pools nature reserve and the Pebblebed Heaths NNR looking for bats. Meet at north entrance at 9pm. Walk will last approximately 1.5 hours and will involve walking over uneven terrain. Please bring torch.
Parking is very limited and will be organised for the event - please book your parking slot via Eventbrite, or park nearby at Wheathill or Squabmoor Reservoir Car Parks. Please do not park on the roads, to maintain access for other users.
