Himalayan Balsam Bashing

Various dates July-August. Lustleigh, South Brent, West Dart.

Dartmoor National Park are looking for volunteers to join them in some days of practical conservation work around Lustleigh, South Brent and the West Dart. The task will be removing Himalayan balsam; a non-native plant species which spreads quickly around wet woodland, marshland and watercourses.

Butterflies of Devon - Evening Talk

Tuesday 9 July, 19:00. Quince Honey Farm, EX36 3RD

Join us for an evening talk with Pete Hurst to learn all about these beautiful insects, with a look at their lifecycle, usefulness and threats. Pete Hurst is a long-standing committee member of the Butterfly Conservation Devon Branch and will share his passion and knowledge with you about the wonderful world of butterflies. With a focus on Devon butterflies, including some of our rarities, he will also touch upon the local conservation efforts to protect them. Learn about the differences between butterflies and moths, with a bit of myth-busting followed by a delve into the world of moths too. Tickets are £5 per person.

Wilding (PG) with Q&A

Friday 12 July, 19:30. Seaton Gateway Theatre, Devon, EX12 2LE

Based on Isabella Tree’s best-selling book by the same title, Wilding tells the story of a young couple that bets on nature for the future of their failing, four-hundred-year-old estate. We are very excited to have Ted Green MBE and Jill Butler at the screening who will take part in a Q&A about the rewilding project after the film. Tickets are £5.

Farm BioBlitz

Sunday 14 July. Springwater Farm, near Exeter

The Connecting People and Landscapes project is hosting a Farm BioBlitz on Sunday 14 July, at Springwater Farm, near Exeter, searching for as many different mammal, bird, plant and invertebrate species over the course of 14 hours.

This free event is open to everyone, no matter their level of wildlife surveying experience - there'll be experts on hand to helps us with identification and we'll be recording everything we find to collect a snapshot of biodiversity on the farm. Plus, meet the farmers and their special Highland cows and 'wooly' Mangalitza pigs that are helping create a more nature-friendly farm

Join the Dawn Chorus walk, daytime sessions, and/or the Bat Walk in the evening – see website for more details. Suitable for 13 years +. All under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult

The Big Saunton Beach Clean

Sunday 14 July, Sunday 15 September, Sunday 27 October, Sunday 8 December, 11:00-13:00. Saunton

The ‘Big Saunton Beach Clean’ partnership draws together a range of community and business stakeholders and many dedicated volunteer beach cleaners. Since 2018 the Saunton events have involved 3050 volunteers, 43 beach cleans and the removal of over four tonnes of rubbish.

Skills Bootcamp in Regenerative Land-based Systems

Free for participants, made possible by Devon County Council, Skills Bootcamps and Train 4 Tomorrow, and certified by Crossfields Institute, the Apricot Centre @Huxhams Cross Farm and Landworkers Alliance present the Level 2 Skills Bootcamp in Regenerative Land-Based Systems to introduce people to the world of regenerative farming and help them gain skills for furthering their work and becoming part of the future of farming. Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee. 

12 sessions will take place on Wednesdays, 9am- 4pm. Dates are specified for each cohort upon application and confirmed once you are accepted on a course. You must attend 80% of the course to complete.

Applications are continuously open for 2024 cohorts.
