Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project Advisory Officer (Maternity Leave Cover)

Salary: £21,218 plus 5% pension

Closing date: Sunday 25th February 2018

Location: Cricklepit Mill, Exeter

This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated individual to work within a broad partnership of conservation, community and protected landscape organisations on a national flagship project for a highly threatened species. You will make a significant contribution to the delivery of a fully integrated landscape scale nature conservation and community engagement programme.

Devon Wildlife Trust, on behalf of the Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Partnership, secured funding in 2015 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the delivery of this project, which runs until 2020. The partnership is seeking to recruit an advisory officer to continue the successful delivery of the habitat management, restoration, and re-creation targets, which will secure a more resilient and coherent network of habitats across Devon for this threatened species of bat.

In the first two years of delivery the project has secured over 425ha of priority habitat into management agreements, 72km of hedges are in better management for bats and 374 land advisory visits have been made. We have engaged with over 15,000 people through our innovative programme of school visits and events. You could be part of the delivery of this exciting project, helping to secure the future of the greater horseshoe bat in Devon.

You will have an enthusiasm for working for wildlife in the farmed environment, and be able to provide sound advice on bat friendly land management practices. You will be able to speak with knowledge on agri-environment schemes and be persuasive in assisting landowners with changes to land management.

This post is being offered on a full-time, temporary basis to cover maternity leave of the current postholder. As this is a temporary post to cover maternity leave absence, we cannot say for how long the role will be available, but we anticipate that the post holder will be absent for between six and nine months.
We can offer you good terms and conditions, flexible working arrangements and a great office environment. The successful candidate will be joining a team of committed, hardworking and friendly colleagues. This is a great opportunity to take the next step in your career within a leading Devon charity.
